One man was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital Saturday after as many as seven people became distressed during a rescue attempt in the water off Little Talbot Island State Park.
The stricken man was brought to shore on an ocean-rescue Jet Ski with the Jacksonville fire department after being spotted by a police helicopter. That man, thought to be in his 30s, was apparently a bystander who had gone into the ocean to try to help two boys who had taken their boogie boards too far from shore.
